The Government Commissariat

The Government Commissariat was established in 1964 at the Ministry of Finance in accordance with Article 41 of the Code of Money and Credit.

The Commissioner, who reports directly to the Minister of Finance, and is assisted by an employee of the same Ministry at Grade 3 at least, heads the Government Commissariat.

 

The Commissioner's major functions consist of:

  • supervising the implementation of the Code of Money and Credit;
  • setting an annual control program regarding the activities of the Banque du Liban and its accounts;
  • overseeing the cooperation between the Banque du Liban and other public entities; and
  • verifying the resolutions taken by the Central Council of the Banque du Liban.

 

In the course of carrying out their functions, the Commissioner and his assistant are bound by the Bank Secrecy Law.
